Neither — and the best of both. You stay in your own apartment with a fully equipped kitchen, your own living area and a balcony or terrace: no fixed meal times, no hotel timetable. At the same time the house has a spa with an indoor pool, sauna, infrared cabin and quiet room, a lounge with a self-service bar, a mini shop with homemade dishes and breakfast to order. To make that possible we completely rethought and rebuilt the former Hotel Kathrin.

Yes — it's one of the reasons Kathrin exists. The largest categories have 95 m² and room for eleven people. You cook and eat together and still withdraw into your own areas in the evening, instead of being spread across four hotel rooms and only seeing each other at breakfast. Just tell us in your enquiry how you're split up and we'll suggest the right combination.

The spa with indoor pool, sauna, infrared cabin and quiet room, including bathrobe and sauna towels. Plus bed linen and hand and bath towels in the apartment, high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the house, a free parking space at the house, the heated ski and boot room, the lockable bike cellar with an e-bike charging point and the Guest Mobility Ticket. You can also join the BERG-GESUND activity programme free of charge — guided snowshoe walks or ski tours, for example. The kitchen has everything you'd otherwise have to go out and buy: an oven with microwave and induction hob, a capsule coffee machine, a kettle, cookware and tableware, plus dishwasher tablets, tea towels and washing-up liquid.

You decide how much you do yourself. On request we order fresh bread daily from Unterkofler, the village bakery; breakfast boxes with regional produce are ready to collect from 07:30. The mini shop has drinks, snacks and homemade dishes to heat up around the clock, and the lounge has a self-service bar with coffee, tea, soft drinks, beer and wine — it all goes on your apartment card and is settled at the end of your stay. If you like, we'll fill the fridge before you arrive. Restaurants, cafés and supermarkets are a few minutes' walk away.

It's a few minutes' walk to the valley station of the Großarler Bergbahnen. Even easier: the free ski bus stops directly outside the house and runs every 15 minutes. The Alpendorf lifts (Snow Space Salzburg) are about 15 minutes away by car or public bus. The Großarltal–Dorfgastein ski circuit connects you to the 760 kilometres of piste in Ski amadé. Skis and boots stay overnight in the heated ski room with a boot dryer.

We open on 27 November 2026. Check-in is from 15:00, check-out until 10:00. Subject to availability and arranged in advance, you can move into your apartment from 10:00 (early check-in, € 80.00) or keep it until 18:00 (late check-out, € 80.00).

Daily from 08:00 to 20:00, the sauna from 15:00 to 20:00. Use is included in the stay for all house guests, and we provide bathrobes and sauna towels free of charge.

We provide cots and high chairs subject to availability for € 25.00 per night. Dogs are welcome in selected apartments, also at € 25.00 per night. Please mention both in your enquiry so we can reserve accordingly.

Both work. The booking engine shows availability and price immediately — ideal if your dates and category are already settled. An enquiry is worth it if you're not sure which apartment fits, if you're coming as a larger group and would like to combine several apartments, or if you have special requests. Then you get a personal proposal within 24 hours instead of a standard reply.

Cancellation terms depend on the rate booked and are shown during the booking process and in the booking confirmation. For longer stays we recommend travel cancellation insurance. You can pay in cash or by debit card, Visa, Mastercard or American Express.

By car via the A10 to the Bischofshofen exit, then the B311 to St. Johann im Pongau and around 16 kilometres further through the Großarl valley — Marktstraße 70, 5611 Großarl. Parking at the house is free. By train to St. Johann im Pongau, from where Postbus line 540 takes you to the Großarl Sportzentrum stop close by. Salzburg Airport is around 70 kilometres away, Munich about 220. With the Guest Mobility Ticket you travel free throughout Salzburger Land — on request we issue it digitally before you arrive.
